Our FOI to UK Sport

We’re asking how public money is being used to protect athletes and prevent abuse in sport? The public need to know:

• When British Gymnastics last received public funding and when its next funding cycle will be assessed

• How safeguarding compliance under the Code for Sports Governance is evaluated

• Whether and how those assessments influence funding decisions

• What powers exist to condition, review, or suspend funding where safeguarding improvements are required

This request is also made in response to the Government’s 2025 cross-government strategy, Freedom from Violence and Abuse: A Cross-Government Strategy to Build a Safer Society for Women and Girls, which commits publicly funded bodies to strengthen protections for women and girls.

Transparency regarding safeguarding oversight in girls’ sport represents a practical test of how those commitments are applied in operational funding decisions, beyond statements.
